Public Programs

Sioux County Conservation Board offers several public programs throughout the year, many times partnering with other local organizations. Most public programs are free of charge though some do require a small fee. Our public programs are designed to encourage people to get outside and provide opportunities to try new skills. Pre-registration is sometimes required so please pay close attention to the event you wish to attend. Pre-registration for events is found on

Attention all ladies! Do you love to try new things outdoors? Do you love it even more with like-minded women? Then you should join us for our annual Women in the Outdoors! In the past we have offered prairie walks, shotgun shooting, kayaking, wild edibles, horse back riding, geocaching, wine bottle luminaries, and much more.  We are still deciding on this year’s topics.

Open to ages 14 and up (14-17 with adult). This is a partnership between Sioux, O’Brien, Lyon, and Osceola County Conservation Boards and the Gobblin’ Ghosts Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation. The event rotates between county locations each year. This year, the event will be hosted at Osceola County Conservation Board near Ocheyedan, IA. Cost is $45 and includes your NWTF membership.  Register by calling 712/552-3057. Click WITO brochure 2019(1) to download registration brochure.

Turkey Ridge Campground Oak Grove Park, Hawarden IA

Interested in Dutch Oven Cooking, or want to see what all the fuss is about? This event is for you! Contestants bake dishes in select categories: breads and appetizers; main dishes; and dessert. Judges sample each dish and award first place in each category. A potluck meal follows judging. Don’t feel like preparing a big dish? Public is welcome to come observe and ask questions starting at 3 pm, and welcome to join the meal starting at 6 pm. Remember this is a potluck, so if you come to eat, please bring a dish to share, does not have to be Dutch oven dish.

Contestants: Please call Sunday Ford at 712-552-3057 beginning in September to sign up as a cooker. First 10 Cookers to register will receive a free campsite at Turkey Ridge for that Saturday night.
